The Chicago Bears got a massive upgrade to their offense today after making a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
In his rookie season, quarterback Caleb Williams showed flashes of greatness, breaking the Bears’ rookie franchise passing record. Chicago also has great offensive weapons around Williams, such as D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift.
Despite the positives of his rookie season, Williams was sacked a league-high 68 times. Though some of those sacks may have been the young quarterback’s fault, Chicago’s pass protection was lacking and the team needs to upgrade its offensive line.
With that in mind, the Bears reportedly traded with the Chiefs, sending them a 2026 fourth-round pick in exchange for All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, according to insider Ian Rapoport.
“Sources: The Bears are expected to trade for Chiefs All-Pro G Joe Thuney, as the Chicago continues to load up on the offensive line. KC gets a bit younger, plus frees up some money to use elsewhere.”
The Chiefs likely did not want to part ways with the veteran guard, but financially it makes sense to free up money for the team. Thuney joins the Bears set to make $16 million in 2025 while on the last season of a five-year, $80 million contract.
This offseason, Chicago had to revamp its offense after averaging the fewest total yards per game last season, 284.6, and the fifth-fewest points per game, 18.2. Hiring offensive minded head coach Ben Johnson was a great start, but adding a four-time Super Bowl champion to the offensive line in Thuney is a major upgrade for the Bears offense.
