It’s been a while, but Tyrod Taylor once played in a Pro Bowl.
The formerly effective Buffalo Bills starter could be the right stopgap option for the New York Jets this fall after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers.
The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt writes that Taylor “will be in the mix” at the quarterback position heading into Week 1.

Taylor’s most likely competition would come from a free agent, like Justin Fields, Carson Wentz or Kirk Cousins.
Taylor has made a lengthy NFL career for himself after being a sixth-round pick in the 2011 Draft.
He has an overall record of 28-28-1 as a starter. His 2015 Pro Bowl season for the Bills included more than 3,000 passing and 500 rushing yards to go with 24 total touchdowns.
In addition to Buffalo, Taylor has started NFL games for the Browns, Chargers, Texans and Giants.
It may not be the glamorous option that New York is hoping for, but the Jets could also do worse.
Taylor, 35 now, could be the right guy to keep the seat warm for an incoming rookie, too.
Also of note: “Taylor is known to be popular in the Jets locker room – most importantly, wide receiver Garrett Wilson is a fan,” Rosenblatt wrote recently in The Athletic.
Expect the Jets quarterback saga to be an ongoing story, potentially even well into the 2025 NFL season. But regardless of who comes in from outside, don’t discount Taylor’s chances.
