Patrick Mahomes has the perfect motivation to win a third consecutive Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs star’s wife Brittany to give birth in an NFL bye week.
The Chiefs‘ 15-2 regular season saw them secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a game to spare, which granted them a pass on the wild-card round and sent them straight into the divisional. Kansas City’s record, and a ninth consecutive AFC West title, was put together despite several injuries to key players and the offense seemingly struggling to get firing.
Mahomes’ motivation to secure the top seed in the AFC was helped by his wife Brittany’s due date for their third child. Patrick and Brittany are high school sweethearts, sharing Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 2. According to the NFL star, a second baby girl is due next week.
“He told me his wife Brittany is due to give birth to their 3rd child on Sunday. If she doesn’t give birth by then she will be induced Monday,” CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson shared. “There was def extra motivation for Patrick to get that bye week!”

Patrick and Brittany, who got married in March 2022, announced they were having a third child last summer. In an interview with Kay Adams for Netflix’s coverage of the Chiefs’ Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mahomes touched on their latest childbirth journey together.
“Brittany says I’ve been stressing her out too much this season,” Mahomes told Adams. “So I got to try to not put so much stress on her through these football games.”
“Hopefully, God works the right way, and we can have that baby on the bye week somewhere, and then everything will work out perfectly,” he added. “I told my pregnant wife I was gonna get the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby,” he later said.

Brittany is due to give birth as the Chiefs closely watch the AFC wild-card round. As for who Kansas City will play, they’ll face the lowest-seeded team in the AFC divisional round, with the Houston Texans taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens facing off against the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Denver Broncos playing the Buffalo Bills.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid faced criticism for resting key players. However, Reid says getting to see some of the younger players was invaluable.
“They did a nice job today. Sean’s done a good job with that group. The positive for us was that we got to play a lot of young guys,” Reid said. “And that experience is invaluable, especially against a good football team. So we need to do better, obviously. But that opportunity again is something that’s special. So with that, time’s yours. I’m going to meet with the team tonight. And I’m going to tell them what it looks like.”
