After the possibility of Donald Trump pardoning Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs was addressed by both Diddy’s lawyers and Trump, an online petition was started asking the president not to pardon Diddy
A petition is circulating on the internet asking Donald Trump not to pardon Sean “P. Diddy” Combs.
While the current president hasn’t confirmed that he would pardon the disgraced music mogul. Diddy is scheduled to be sentenced on October 3 after being found guilty last month of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, but was acquitted of the two more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. He could face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Rumors have swirled that Trump could pardon Diddy, and Diddy’s legal team only added fuel to the fire when one of Diddy’s lawyers, Nicole Westmoreland, appeared on CNN and confirmed that the team “reached out” to the president about a potential pardon.
Trump himself spoke about a potential pardon, saying on Newsmax, “Probably hmm. You know, I was very friendly with him. I get along with him great. Seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
In response to the buzz around a presidential pardon, a petition was made on Change.org titled, “Trump: Back Off Diddy’s Trial. No Pardon.”
As of writing, the petition has close to 11,000 signatures. Danielle Robertson, who started the petition, wrote about the issue on the page, “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs stands accused of some of the most disturbing crimes imaginable. After years of silence, survivors are finally stepping into the light, telling their stories of abuse, assault, and unimaginable trauma. This moment is not about politics. It is about justice, long delayed but no longer denied.”
She addressed Trump directly, saying, “President Trump, your recent comments implying you might consider pardoning Diddy are a gut punch to every survivor who has ever suffered in silence. These individuals are not props for headlines or pawns in political games. They deserve protection, not the looming threat that their alleged abuser could be absolved with the flick of a pen.”
Danielle noted that Trump had already made various pardons, and if this one happened, it would “be a betrayal of every survivor’s fight for justice.”
The issue portion of the page ended, “Let the system run its course. Let survivors be heard. Let justice mean something this time.”
People who signed the petition agreed with Danielle, writing notes alongside their online signatures. “This proposed pardon would be a major travesty of justice. Our so-called administration cannot support this behavior and must take a stand for the victims and law enforcement,” one wrote.
“I voted for Trump, but if he pardons Diddy I will no longer support him; or anything he stands for,” another stated.
