Shedeur Sanders was given fresh hope that he could be the Cleveland Browns’ longtime starter, if the organization misses out on drafting Texas star quarterback Arch Manning

It is no secret that Shedeur Sanders has a tough challenge ahead of him if he wants to be the Cleveland Browns starter and while the task appears daunting at present, he could be given the opportunity in the near future.

Sanders currently sits behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel on the Browns quarterback chart, with the team seemingly observing all options before making a decision on who will start under center to start the 2025 NFL season. Despite his position, the former Colorado star is continuing to compete and fight for the spot.

That said, Sanders’ standing within the Browns could be in jeopardy if Cleveland somehow manages to land Texas star Arch Manning. Of note, the 23-year-old was recently named the Browns’ starter for their preseason matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

While Manning could somehow land in Cleveland, there are hopes that Sanders could be tabbed as the starter if the Texas star does not opt for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Arch Manning’s grandfather, Archie Manning, has revealed that he predicts his grandson will remain with the Longhorns for the time being. Arch isnt going to do that, the elder Manning said [h/t On3]. Hell be at Texas.

In the same vein, Jimmy Haslam, owner of the Browns, noted that he doesn’t expect the Longhorns star to declare for the draft anytime soon.

I think, if you know the Manning family, I would bet that  and I dont know Arch at all. Id bet he stays in college two years. I dont even think thats worth discussing,” Haslam admitted.

Still, it is no secret that Cleveland has its eyes set on the star Longhorns quarterback. On a recent episode of ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd,’ the FOX Sports 1 pundit shared that it is not out of the realm of possibility for the Browns to select Manning if Cleveland somehow ends up in that position.

Cowherd began: This is the worst-kept secret in the South. Haslam, Jimmy, owner of the Browns, huge SEC Tennessee booster. Leans heavily on the Manning family, very close to the Manning family.

[Nick] Saban is incredibly close to not only Jimmy Haslam, but Saban’s close to the Manning family as well. And so Saban, if he could land  a top quarterback  like [Jim] Harbaugh going to the Chargers for [Justin] Herbert  he would take a phone call for the NFL.

And there are two teams guaranteed to be awful this year in the NFL, Cleveland and the Saints. Nick Saban has coached in Cleveland with the Browns under the Belichick staff, and he coached at LSU. This is not a conspiracy theory.

What’s more, Cowherd posited that because Haslam enjoys being the center of attention, that would not preclude him from making a splash draft selection. And the Mannings are royalty to Jimmy Haslam, Cowherd continued.

Jimmy Haslam also loves headlines. It’s why he pushed the draft Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield. They were the most talked about quarterbacks. … It’s why he signed a ridiculous guaranteed contract for Deshaun Watson. It would get discussed.
